So in front of such a powerful
Allah,
How can one not consider
oneself as annihilated, if otherwise an ignoble
He has uprooted numerous hearts
with mountains
Hung the clever bird upside
down, despite having two legs
The path is not obtained by
increasing of intelligence or action
The blessings of Allah doesn’t
show path except those who are humble
By
stating the power and domination of Allah, Maulana suggests to persuade to weakness,
defeat, helplessness and humility before Him, as it is imperative to understand
oneself as defeated to consider the other as overpowered and behave with
humility. He states that how cannot be a person be annihilated before such a powerful
and overpowering Allah i.e. why don’t he accept defeat and humility, if
otherwise he is not an ignoble or mean. He has such a power that a number of characters
with hearts as big as the mountain in stability (like Bal’am, a Mosaic period
character) were uprooted from their places and all the stability will become
nothing and become engrossed in sins and kufr. He has got the clever bird hung
upside down. It is referred to parrot, as when it was to be hunted, the hunter passes
a thread through a hollow pipe and tie its both ends to the trees. When the
parrot sits on the pipe, the pipe starts rotating and parrot attempts to clutch
the pipe more to avoid falling down and gets hung upside down. The hunter will
then catch the parrot. Here it is likely that either Iblees or philosopher is
being termed as clever bird, who are taking base from imperfect theories than
the orders of Allah and gets hung upside down due to discussion of either
results of the theories due to being astray and ignorant. In fist stanza,
indication is towards to not consider power
of action (عملیہ) supreme and in the second stanza, to keep power of knowledge (علمیہ) in abeyance. When the powers of action as well as knowledge
are proved to be insufficient, then it has come to knowledge that increasing understanding
and respect is not the path to reach Allah. Rather requirement is of humility
and except humility of people, blessing of Allah doesn’t accept anyone. This doesn’t
mean that action and knowledge are of no use, but the warning is there that
after obtaining them, one should not dependent on them or feel proud of it, as
no tricks and strategies are worth before the power of Allah. Instead one
should make efforts to obtain action and knowledge considering them as
mandatory, but keep eyes only on the blessings of Allah and always keep humility,
wailing and fear as his habit. As Sheikh Sa’adi says:
تکیہ بر تقویٰ و دانش در طریقت کافرست
راہرو گر صد ہنر وارد توکل بایدش
