اے بَسا اصحابِ کہف اندر جَہاں
O’
(the reader), there are a number of People of Cave in this world
پہلوئے تو پیش تو ہست ایں زماں
Lie near and before you even now
یار با او، غار با او ہم سرُود
Both
friends and cave are their companion
مہر بر چشم ست و بر گوشت چہ سُود
But there are no benefit for you as your eyes and ears are sealed
بازداں کز چیست ایں رُو پوشہا
Now
try to understand, why are these veils for us
ختمِ حق بر چشم ہا و گوش ہا
Why are our eyes and ears are sealed by Allah
It
has been mentioned above Couplet 490
حالِ عارف ایں بُود بیخواب ہم
that
the Gnostics (عارفین)
witness the type of disconnection and non-inclination towards the world (دنیا)
in his in-sense condition (i.e. in بیداری),
which common people observe only in sleep i.e. in dream. And they are termed
and compared as People of Cave in these couplets, as explained therein. Now as
if the listener is questioning that where are such people and kindly tell us,
who you have mentioned above and therefore Maulana Rum inclines towards this content.
Answering this, he states that there are thousands of saints (aulia-allah) are
there, which are like People of Cave i.e. though they are apparently alert (بیدار)
but actually cut off from the world. They are here in front of you in this
world only and are amongst you i.e. assimilated with you, but you are not able
to decipher them as your eyes and ears are sealed and hence you are not getting
benefited. Now asking the readers, he states, do tell me what are these veils
that you are not able to recognize the saints now and then answers the same
that Allah has placed the seal on your eyes and ears, so that knowing the same
may pave the way for its remedy.
