Couplet 531-532


    کَیْفَ مَدَّا ظِلَّ      نقش اولیا ست

“How has shadow spread’ is the base of existence of Friends of Allah

کُو دلیلِ نورِ خورشیدِ خداست

They are the torchbearer of the noor of Allah


اندریں وادی مرو بے ایں دلیل

Don’t tread in this valley without guide

       لَا اُحِبُّ الْاٰفِلِیْن  گو چوں خلیل

Say like Abraham that ‘ I don’t like those who hides’


ِIt is stated in Quran (25:45) –

Have you not considered your Lord - how He extends the shadow, and if He willed, He could have made it stationary? Then We made the sun for it an indication.

             The image (نقش) here is for Friends of Allah & accomplished masters and their being ظل اللّاہ (shadow of Allah) has been discussed. Quran tells about the shadow of the external sun as see how Allah extends the shadow of the sun etc. Similar is the example of Friends of Allah (which are referred as the spiritual sun metamorphically), who tells you about the address of the light of Allah (نورِ خدا) i.e. path for seeking وصولِ اللّاہ, the way the shadow of this external sun shows the address of the external sun. Simile-wise its spiritual sun is telling about the way how to achieve وصولِ اللّاہ. Thus, don’t tread a single step without this and without a guide in the valley of sulook. Don’t try to consider  the lights and hues of this world (ناسوتی) & angelic world (ملکوتی), which are seen in the path/ journey as the destination. Rather, like Abraham, say that ‘I am not the friend of those who are annihilated (فناء)’, as mentioned in Quran (6:76) –

He said, "This is my lord." But when it set, he said, "I like not those that disappear."

                   As we have already discussed that there is an indication that if some lights etc. are witnessed during the meditation and matters related to the sulook, then try to strengthen the belief (عویدہ) and action (عمل). The strengthening of belief is that consider them as occurred & created and not the Creator or towards Allah (قدیم), as the sighting of Allah  can never happen in this world. This has also been detailed in the explanation of the couplet of Proem (Couplet 34):
عشق جان  طور آمد  عاشقا
O’ you who love, the love became the life of Mount Toor

طور مست و خر موسٰی صٰعقا
And the Toor started dancing and Moses became faint

                  The strengthening of action (عمل) is that don’t indulge in these lights (نور), but make oneself busy towards the Real Beloved, negating these things, because although these lights are angelic (ملکوتی) but are created only. Thus indulgence in these is similar to the indulgence in wealth and jewel. Both are same as far as veil is concerned, rather these angelic (نورانی) veils are more potent than that of dark veil of this world (ناسوتی) (i.e. wealth and jewel). People are more familiar to the veils of this world and consider them as veils and do not get much taste out of it. Therefore, the heart is not more inclined towards them and people are also trying to overcome them. But the angelic veils are grand & people consider them as the fruits of meditation, there is no way of coming out of it in whole life, if one is imprisoned or indulged in these veils. If one understands and considers these angelic lights as the divine (لاہوتی) lights (attributes of Allah Ta’ala), then besides action (عمل), faith (عقیدہ) too will be destroyed. A lot many people are destroyed at this stage. Therefore, the correction of action and belief is obligatory.
