خفتہ آں باشد کہ اُو از ہر خیال
Sleeping
is the one who has thoughts
دارد امید و کند با اُو مقال
Association with it and discusses about it
نے چناکہ از خیال آید بحال
He
is not the one to come to ecstasy from thoughts
آں خیالش گردد اُو راصد ا بال
Rather those thoughts would bring hundreds of troubles
دیورا چوں حور بیند اُو بخواب
He
is seeing satan as beauty in the dream
پس ز شہوت ریزد اُو با دیو آب
And then cohabited with it
چونکہ تخمِ نسل در شورہ بریخت
As
soon as he puts seed in the earth
اُو بخویش آمد خیال از وے گریخت
He comes into senses and comes out of it
ضُعفِ سر بیند ازان و تن پلید
Due
to this, he feels weakened in mind and impure in body
آں ازاں نقشِ پدیدِ نا پدید
Ashamed of the external & perishable picture
The
two types of alertness (بیداری)
has been explained in the previous couplets, one is alertness of body, which is
contemptible and the pollution of thought due to this has been narrated. The
second is alertness towards Allah, which is likeable. There are two categories
of sleep, one is sleep in respect the worldly affairs, which is likeable, and
the other is sleep in respect of Allah, which is contemptible. These two
categories have been detailed in these following couplets, as the excellence of
attributes of sleep and condemnation of thoughts, which are there in our
writings, is not for absolutely for all the sleeps and similarly not for condemnation
of all the thoughts. Instead the thoughts of sleep towards worldly affairs are
beneficial and thus those are different likeable thoughts that every such
thought leads for his desire for hope for wusool Allah. And such thoughts seem
to be discussing with him i.e. pious
thoughts and care of heart is also the
medium for wusool-il-Allah and the inspiration, knowledge and the truth
inculcate in the heart, since these thoughts are the reason for such knowledge
and truths, thus these are metaphorically termed that these thoughts are in
discussion with him, as is there in this Ayaah of Quran (30:35) –
Or have We sent down to them an authority, and it speaks of what
they were associating with Him?
And
not those sleeps and thoughts, which stresses and are contemptible, as one
feels ashamed and are troubles for him,
when he comes back to his original stage of alertness (بیداری). These are those thoughts of worldly
affairs which when happened brings a lot of joy and taste, but would be nothing
except sins and troubles at the time of original alertness (بیداری) i.e. at the time of death. There is such
an example of this sleep and this thought like a person considers satan as a
beautiful girl in the dream or thought and then cohabit with her and see it
dropped in the ground and wasted. At that time, his thoughts and senses come
back and the imagination of the girl disappears, then he feels weak in the head
and body becomes impure. Now he regrets, as to how that imagination of the girl
happens and how it disappears, as her existence was only in thoughts and
imagination and same is the situation of the seekers of other than Allah.
