زشتی ایں نامِ بَد از خرب نیست
The
curse of a bad name is not due to its letters
تلخی آں آبِ بحر از ظرف نیست
The bitterness of sea water is not due to utensils, where it is kept
There
is explanation in this couplet that these effects of words are not due to letters
and words, but of meaning. The second part of the couplet is the example of the
same, where words is referred as utensils and meaning as water of the sea. The
reason of this is that the way water is the objective and the utensils are
followers. It means that the water of the sea is itself salty and utensils has
nothing to do with the saltiness. Similarly, the meanings are themselves bad
and nothing bad comes from the words and letters.
