In
order to differentiate between pure and impure gold,
Cannot be relied upon without touchstone
When
Allah puts the touchstone in the hearts,
They will indeed be able to differentiate between the belief & doubt
As
Muhammad SAW said “take rulings from your own heart”
This is known to those who are true in their belief
If
a piece of grass enters into the mouth of a live person
He becomes satisfied only when he gets that removed
Even
a piece of grass in thousands of bites of food
When it comes, senses of a living one will be able to find it out
The
content of the previous couplet has been continued here as the example of bad
and good attributes are compared with pure and impure gold, which seems to be
similar apparently but having a great difference. But to tell the difference
between the two, a touchstone is needed. Similarly, to differentiate between the
bad and good attributes, one needs the insight (بصیرت).
Those who have blessed by Allah Ta’ala with essence i.e. His light in their heart,
are able to differentiate between the truth and dubious i.e. between the good
attributes, with which truth entails and the attributes, with which the
darkness of doubt appears. Or in other words, he can differentiate between the
actions carried out by the attributes of good and those carried out by the attributes
of darkness. Further, Maulana cites a hadith:
استفت
i.e. when there is doubt and there is no
confirmed ruling/ direction, then go ask from your own heart and act according
to the advise. This direction in the hadith is not for anyone but the one, who
is full of truth and have completely committed to Allah Ta’ala & His will
and have been blessed with the insight from Allah Ta’ala. The heart of such a
person is such a pure and blessed one that whatever direction (فتویٰ),
it issues, will be of worth believing. Further Maulana gives an example to clarify the detection of doubtful things
by the insight of a pious one is like if some straw or small twig goes into the
mouth of a live person, Then his senses immediately become alive & remove the
unwanted piece of straw. Similarly People with insight (اہل
بصیرت) are bestowed with spiritual life (حیاتِ معنویہ)
and with their spiritual senses (حواسِ
معنوی), they could easily differentiate the
doubtful content.
