Couplet 462-467


بہرِ ایں معنیٰ صحابہ از رسول

Due to this, companions were asking Prophet SAW



مُلتمِس بود ند مکرِ نفسِ غُول


The questions regarding the satan of desires


کوچہ آمیزد ز اَغراضِ نہاں

How could it mix the personal agendas in



در عبادتہا و در اِخلاصِ جاں


Prayers and piuousness of heart


فضلِ طاعت را نجتندے ازو

They did ask for the blessings of the prayers



عیبِ باطن را بجستندے کہ کو


Rather they wanted to know the ways to remove the internal defects


مو بمو و ذرّہ مکرِ نفس

They were able to decipher every tricks of nafs



میشناسید ند چوں گل از کرفس


He could differentiate between the flower and parsley

گفت زاں فصلے حذیفہ با حسن

Some part of this has been transferred to Hasan Basri from Huzaifa RA



تابدا شد واض  تذکیرش حسن


Which improves his oration and discussion a lot


مُوشگافانِ صحابہ جملہ شاں

Number of knowledgeable companions



خیرہ گشتندے دراں واض و بیاں


Were become perplexed from his oration and discussion



                    Sometimes one does not know the tricks and attacks of one’s enemy like the Christians are not aware of the tricks and deception of this vizier. Nafs is our enemy and there is probability that perhaps sometimes, we may trapped unaware of its tricks and play, which may lead to distraction. Therefore, some Companions of Prophet SAW explored from him the tricks and traps of nafs as to what motives does it include clandestinely in the worship (عبادہ) and in یخلاص (sincerity). There is narration from Hazaafah RA (a famous companion of Prophet SAW), who told that everybody used to search from the Prophet SAW about the betterment and I used to find out about the evil so that to save myself from this and I did not ask the matters related to the excellence and benefits of obedience with so much fervor, as that the research of internal faults of nafs. After asking so many questions, he had become a great researcher in this field as he understood the traps of nafs hair by hair and to its depth to such an extent like a person knows the difference between the parsley and the flower. He had passed on some content from his knowledge of traps of nafs to Hasan Basri RA and therefore the advises, counsels and oration of Hasan Basri RA had become extremely efficient and eloquent. The great researchers among Companions too become amazed to hear such oration (from Hasan BAsri), as what is his knowledge amongst his contemporaries, and not because the Companions are bereft of these knowledge.  There should not be any doubt about this, however, another doubt has arisen as raised by the Hadith explainers that there were no meeting took place between Huzaifah RA and Hasan Basri RA  and then how can this content be justified. Therefore some people has considered Imam Hasan RA with the Hasan (حسن) in the couplet. However, oration and counseling has indicated that this may not be correct, as Hasan Basri is known for oration and counseling etc. Thus it is better to consider Hasan Basri here and the answer for the doubt is that information dissemination is a common phenomenon whether in person or without and since Huzaifah was famous as knowledge repository and therefore senior Companions like Umar RA etc used to consult him and Hasan Basri had met some of  the Companions and it may be possible that these companions might pass on the information received from Huzaifah to Hasan Basri RA.
[Imam Ghazali RA used to tell that the writings of Hasan Basri RA matches the writings of prophets.]
