Work of People of Falsehood is to deceive & unashamedness
روشنی
means light of faith and mystical knowledge of Allah Ta’ala and گرمی means the warmth of ishq. It is indicated
here that the identification of perfect sheikh is their these attributes i.e. knowledge
of Allah and ishq and those of false ones are fraud and shamelessness.
Maulana
has expressed the symptoms of perfect sheikh summarily and now it is being
explained in detail now. One should know that one has to consult such a doctor
for the treatment of one’s external illness, who is perfect and himself free of
any illness. Then only he can do the treatment for others (An Arabic proverb
says رای
العلیل علیل i.e.
advice of a queer is queer. If he himself is a patient, then his consultation
is not worth belief and if he is healthy one but not a perfect doctor, then
again he is not of use to the patient). Similarly, one needs such a sheikh for
the treatment of internal/spiritual (باطنی)
illnesses, who is pious and correct in faith and not a novice and sinner, so
that he can guide others. There will be no confidence that he can treat
properly, if he has not a good faith and correct actions (عمل). Rather, apprehension is there that he will try to turn the
pupils like himself in the faith and he cannot direct the pupils in action as
he is not the man of actions. He will always doubtful about advice on actions
and instead he will try to justify his incorrect actions and there are chances
of errors. Secondly, there is no light (نور),
blessings, effectiveness and help from the unknown. If the sheikh is pious and
correct in faith but do not know the training of removal of spiritual drawbacks,
then he too may not be able to cater the needs of the seekers. The signs of an
external doctor is that he has read the medicine, has undergone training under
a qualified doctor for a period, has treated patients in the past and
intelligent people are inclined towards him for treatment. Similarly, the signs
of a perfect doctor of internal ailments i.e. sheikh is that he has passed some period and
benefitted under a perfect sheikh, People of Knowledge (اہلِ علم) and People of Wisdom (اہلِ فہم)
consider him as good and do incline towards him, him company increases the
feeling of Allah and reduces the feeling of the worldly desires, those who are
with him seem to be improving day by day and he is at a level that he can make his
pupils a perfect sheikh, and then only, he is considered as a great panacea and
his visit & respect is considered as red brimstone. Thus the one who fits in
these signs and attributes is a perfect sheikh. He must be pious, correct in
faith, follower of sunnah, required knowledge of religion, undergone
apprenticeship and benefitted under a perfect sheikh, intelligent and knowledgeable
people incline towards him, him company be effective and the conditions of the
pupils under him are improved.
