عِلّتِ عاشق ز
عِلّتہا جد است
The
ailment of a lover is different from other ailments
عشق اُسْطُرْلَابِ اَسرارِ خد است
Ishq is an instrument to assess the secrets of the God
‘اسطرلاب’ is an instrument
used in astrology to determine the position of sun and other celestial objects.
Here its meaning is an instrument for complete maarifah (knowledge of Allah Ta’ala).
In the first part, the difference between the ailment of ishq and other
illnesses has been detailed. Ishq is better than all other illnesses as its
treatment is different than those of others and among other differences, one major
difference is that the ishq is the way for the maarifah of secrets of Allah
Ta’ala as against others. How it can be the way for maarifah, it is described
in the subsequent couplets.
